Eagan, MN – Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement:
“Another day, another question. And this one again goes to Angie Craig’s close relationship with Keith Ellison and all the baggage that may bring.
“While Keith Ellison’s connections to questionable individuals isn’t shocking, his failure to distance himself from Louis Farrakhan – a man known for constantly espousing racism, horrible rants against Jewish people across the globe and hatred towards the LGBT community – is on the shocking side.
“As The Washington Post puts it, ‘He cannot claim to have “disavowed” Farrakhan more than a decade ago while moving in the same circles and apparently having a friendly chat behind closed doors.’
“If the tables were turned, one thinks Republican candidates and officeholders would be getting clobbered with such obvious ties to a racist, homophobic and hate-filled individual, so it’s time for candidates and elected officials alike to disavow Farrakhan and denounce him for all he stands.
“So, the question of the day is: Does Angie Craig support Ellison’s ties to Farrakhan? Or is she too worried help from Ellison (via campaign events, endorsements from his caucus and financial support) will dry up if she criticizes him?
“For a candidate who claims to stand for inclusion, Angie seems to be slow to condemn her pal’s connection to such a hate-filled individual. In this case, does Craig’s silence imply acceptance?”
