Is Angie Craig more Radical than Keith Ellison?

Apr 5, 2018

Eagan, MN – Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement:

“As DFLers in Minnesota’s Second District prepare to head into their own Bernie vs. Hillary showdown, Angie Craig and Jeff Erdmann are competing for the endorsement and title of ‘most progressive candidate CD2 has ever seen.’

“One way to secure that title is by being more radical than Minnesota’s own Keith Ellison, one of the most liberal members in Washington. Make no mistake. Angie Craig is well on her way.

“Over the weekend, Ellison was asked if he would work to repeal the tax relief middle-class families are seeing from the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Not only did Ellison refuse to answer the question – he pivoted three times. Proving that even he understands that here in Minnesota, families are pleased with the benefits they are receiving and that Democrats repeal tax relief at their own peril.

“Angie Craig on the other hand is apparently rather comfortable on Nancy Pelosi’s San Francisco bandwagon, continuing to ignore the tax relief facts and going with the whole ‘crumbs’ ideal. Rather than acknowledging the average family in Minnesota’s Second District is receiving more than $3,000 every year because of Jason Lewis and the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, Craig chose to set up her tent to the left of the one pitched by the DNC’s own deputy chair.

“When asked about what actions she would take on the recently passed tax reform at a forum earlier this year, Craig said, ‘I’d repeal the whole thing. I’m not kidding.’

“Not only does Craig want to undo recent efforts allowing Minnesotan to keep more of their hard-earned dollars, she went as far as to say it ‘may go down as one of the worst pieces of legislation in the history of this nation.’ Not sure about you, but there are a lot of laws that I’d put well above the first substantial tax reform in three decades on the list of worst legislation, but, it’s no surprise multi-millionaire Craig is out of touch with the people she claims to want to represent.

“While attempting to portray herself as a middle of the road candidate, Craig has drawn a line in the sand and apparently it is to the left of even Keith Ellison.”
