Eagan, MN – Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement prior to what was supposed to be the fourth debate in the Second Congressional District before Angie Craig pulled out. Jason Lewis will still be on even with her absence.
“Over the past few months, Angie Craig had spent millions on TV attempting to give the false portrayal that she listens. But listening is only part of the role of being a Member of Congress. The other? Talking about the important issues.
“Angie Craig has spent this cycle buttoned up and silenced by her handlers. She has attempted to play both sides on key issues – that is when she actually talks about policy at all.
“This is why Jason Lewis challenged Craig to five debates. Lewis was evening willing to work with Craig on hosts and was fine dropping his original suggestion of issue-based debates since Craig refused to dive deep into issue areas as originally proposed. But, after agreeing to five debates, a few weeks ago Craig changed her mind (another theme of her debate) and pulled out of the WCCO Debate that was confirmed by both campaigns for October 11th at 10:00am.
“As Blois Olson says in the Morning Take, ‘Last week at a panel of political reporters a common theme emerged, that Democrat Angie Craig was challenging to pin down for interviews by reporters…Craig’s campaign team agreed to debate Jason Lewis on WCCO Radio. The campaign confirmed dates that would work, and then at 4 o’clock on a Friday afternoon a couple weeks back they backed out.’
“It’s ironic her ads are about her talking to the people of Minnesota’s second because today she had a chance to speak to voters for an hour on WCCO and gave that up.
“After watching Craig as a candidate who hides and doesn’t answer unless allowed by her Washington masters, it is no surprise she bailed after her dismal performance at the first three debates.
“Maybe it’s because she was embarrassed with her lackluster performance in the other debates. Maybe it is because her puppet-masters in Washington are upset she revealed too much of her radical views she was supposed to keep hidden. Or maybe it is because she thinks debates are simply ‘unfair’ as she told the moderator last week.
“Regardless of her reasoning, Angie Craig went back on her word to participate in five debates and tell voters where she stands. Real leadership.”
