Press Release: “JASON LEWIS STATEMENT ON UNITEDHEALTH GROUP LEAVING OBAMACARE”

Apr 22, 2016

In the wake of yet another insurer-this one Minnesota’s own UnitedHealth Group-dropping out of the Affordable Care Act exchanges, second district congressional candidate Jason Lewis issued the following statement:

“More bad news on the declining status of health care coverage merely reaffirms the fact that Congress must move to assure that every American won’t be forced into a government exchange or rely on a dwindling number of employers who provide health care. Providing affordable health care along with true portability will require more than just repealing Obamacare, but reforming the entire system so that markets are allowed to finally work and Minnesotans can buy the kind of plans they want, not the costly kind the government thinks they should have.”

President Obama promised to reduce health insurance premium costs by as much $2500 per family, but today premiums are skyrocketing as much as $4865 higher, according to a Kaiser Family Foundation report. Because Obamacare mandated the most expensive coverage for everyone, young people (as well as many insurers) have been priced out of the market. The net result is a health care system bursting at the seams as employers drop costly coverage and dump part-timers onto the trillion dollar ‘exchanges’ and providers refuse new patients due to government price controls. Now with UnitedHealth Group leaving the exchanges, consumers will have fewer choices, less competition, and more expensive premiums which means the cost of the ACA tax credits will explode. Jason Lewis believes this is unsustainable and fixing heath care will be one of his major priorities in Congress.

Jason Lewis spent 25 years on the air as a voice in the conservative movement. An active Minnesota resident for two decades, he and his wife Leigh have two young daughters. Jason organized the first annual tax rally that has become a tradition in St. Paul, with thousands gathering to fight to keep more of what they earn. Jason is also an author, public speaker, and started his career as a business owner running Lewis Motor Supply, a small business founded by his grandfather.
