RELEASE: JASON LEWIS STATEMENT ON VICTORY IN MN-02

Aug 10, 2016

Jason Lewis, the Republican candidate for Congress in Minnesota’s Second District, released the following statement in response to his primary victory tonight:

“I am humbled by the support our campaign has received during this election. From the start, this race has been fueled by voters who are fed up with the status quo and candidates who will be a continuation of the establishment policies-from both parties-that are simply failing us.

“It is an honor to serve as your Republican candidate for Congress and I am going to continue to work tirelessly to earn your support.

“Immediately, our focus is turned wholeheartedly toward earning victory in November.

“The differences between radical liberal Angie Craig’s policy positions and ours are stark. She will do her best to ‘moderate’ her positions, but make no mistake, Angie Craig’s Minnesota would be a radical departure from our shared values.

“I have a plan to restore economic prosperity, stop the reckless spending and fix the tax code. Angie Craig supports the Congressional Progressive Caucus’ budget that includes a massive, $6 trillion-dollar tax increase.

“I will stand up to the overregulation and an EPA that if successful, would cost 2nd district jobs. The Pine Bend refinery in CD2, for example, directly and indirectly employs thousands of hardworking Minnesotans. Angie Craig supports left-wing policies that will kill jobs, like the Clean Power Plan and a carbon tax. I will not support an overreaching federal government that puts 2nd district residents out of work.

“We must also finally stop our principal enemy abroad, the Islamic State, and increase our national security at home. That’s why I’ll continue to focus on securing the border, while Angie Craig supports President Obama’s executive order granting de-facto amnesty for illegal aliens and admitting tens of thousands of Syrian refugees.

“Naturally, the extreme left as well as political insiders will say I’m not politically correct. They are right-I’m not. But their brand of massively larger government has led to skyrocketing health care and college tuition costs, higher taxes and stagnating wages. Naturally it will require bold-not timid-leadership to defeat the entrenched interests that have failed Minnesota. The stakes are too high for the usual red versus blue political gotcha games. The bottom line is this: after 20 years of having a conversation with Minnesotans, I will be the leader we know who will fight tirelessly for our shared values.”

Jason Lewis spent 25 years on the air as a voice in the national political conversation, talking with Minnesotans and Americans about solutions to our greatest problems. An active Minnesota resident for two decades, he and his wife Leigh have two young daughters, Lindsey and Lauren. Jason organized the first annual tax rally that has become a tradition in St. Paul, with thousands gathering to fight to keep more of what they earn. Jason is also an author, public speaker, and started his career running Lewis Motor Supply, a small family business founded by his grandfather.
