Angie Craig: Leader or Mere Employee?
Sep 25, 2018Eagan, MN – Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement regarding Angie Craig’s questionable time as a “health care” executive:
“Just last week Angie Craig tried to distance herself from her high powered and controversial past when an ad was released critical of her tenure as a corporate executive. But no sooner had the ‘mere employee’ pressured the media to pull the critical spot (which they did not do), she’s now back to pitching herself as an upright executive. Once again, Craig continues to try and take credit for the successes her companies saw while she was executive, but fails to take accountability for the failures, fraud, and fatalities that occurred at ‘the companies she helped lead.’ What’s even more is Craig has a history of putting profits before patients, taxpayers, and event our nations’ heroes.
- While Craig was an executive, her company agreed to pay $14.25 million to settle numerous lawsuits due to allegations the company had long-known about defects that eventually led to more than 20 deaths.
- Craig’s company was also charged with overcharging veterans for pacemakers and defibrillators and forced to pay the U.S. Justice Department nearly $4 million in settlements.
- Craig’s company was investigated for brushing cybersecurity concerns under the rug – including lapses in security that could allow hackers to disable cardiac devices and lead to even more fatalities. Something not uncommon according to one analyst who went on the record that Craig’s company ‘has been putting profits before patients for a number of years.’
- Finally, under Craig’s watch, her company also had to pay the DOJ $16 million due to allegations that her company ‘used post-market studies and a registry to pay kickbacks to induce physicians to implant the company’s pacemakers and defibrillators.’
- While Craig was promoted and making millions, hundreds of employees were laid off. In fact, last cycle it was reported, ‘last year, Craig made between $1.8 and $6.9 million, including more than $1 million in St. Jude stock options and her St. Jude salary.’
“Instead of continually touting her checkered career, Craig should be apologizing to patients, taxpayers and veterans.”
