Eagan, MN – Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement:
“Angie Craig’s chameleon campaign rolls on and nowhere is her refusal to give voters a clear position more evident than on an issue the former ‘health care executive’ pretends to care about the most.
“In a matter of two months, Craig’s position on Medicare for All has changed a number of times – that is, when she is willing to talk about the topic at all.
“First, she told MPR that she was in favor of working towards single-payer government controlled Medicare for All system – something her DFL endorsement opponent, Jeff Erdmann, championed daily and 2nd District Democrats are still wondering about.
“Two weeks later, Craig refused to comment on the topic to the Star Tribune.
“And now, she tells WCCO Radio that if there were an actual vote on the House floor for Medicare for All she’d vote ‘no.’
“But, it’s understandable that Craig would try to deflect attention from her efforts to destroy affordable health care in Minnesota. In 2011, St. Jude Medical & their PAC, chaired by none other than Ms. Craig, steered over $750,000 to lobbyists, candidates, and special interest groups in order to pass the ACA. Then, during Craig’s time there, St. Jude Medical spent nearly five million to lobby in order to exempt her firm from the tax to pay for it.
“It should be no surprise that Craig then went on to haul in more campaign dollars from her industry than any other House or Senate candidate in the nation in 2016.
“In fact, it’s especially hypocritical for Angie Craig to feign outrage over health care costs under a scheme she did so much to exploit for her own benefit.
“The Pioneer Press noted in 2016 that ‘Craig made between $1.8 and $6.9 million, including more than $1 million in…stock options’ for her handiwork. Now we find out from financial disclosures this year that Craig was paid another $4.8 million in compensation and stock options.
“Even her own party is getting fed up with Craig’s self-serving calculation, and her lack of willingness to take principled stances. A recent piece details how Craig actually told then volunteer Erdmann in 2016 not ‘to direct voters to the website for an answer’ on an issue ‘because we don’t want the Republicans to know where we stand, and we haven’t seen end-of-summer polling yet.’
“Lewis, on the other hand, talks about issues often and always and spent his August traveling the district doing just that.

“One thing is clear about Angie Craig. She does what’s good for Angie Craig.”
