Eagan, MN - Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement:
“In the wake of Speaker Paul Ryan’s decision to retire, you can always count on the usual tasteless remarks from the DCCC. Ryan, who has long desired more time with his family, decided to leave Congress after 20 years of public service. No matter, he was derided by the DCCC as ‘toxic’ and accused of ‘abandoning’ his colleagues.
“So much for Democrat family values.
“Critics, of course, wasted no time in spinning the Speaker’s move as a sure indication of trouble ahead in the midterms. But many other Republicans are eager to step in and even Ryan himself strongly disputed this notion, pointing out that he long ago expressed limits (and properly so) to his absence from home life.
“The question for voters remains the same: what do they want the majority in Congress to accomplish? And here, the differences are as clear as ever.
“With Republican control, taxes are reduced, unnecessary regulations are cut and borders are secured. With Democrats? Well, they’ve already said they will start down a path of endless investigations and roadblocks. Nothing makes that more clear than the recent statement by Angie Craig pledging “to be a roadblock to all of the things and the progress this administration is trying to undo.”
“But after the two recent shutdowns by Democrats, it should be evident that more ‘roadblocks’ and more partisan gridlock is the exact opposite what we need.
“Thankfully, with Congressman Jason Lewis, we don’t have to worry about that. Whether it is being a vocal advocate for the first tax reform in more than 30 years, or working with Democrats to reform our criminal justice system, Lewis has stood strong on bringing solutions to the table and working with whoever is willing.
“But since we’re talking about congressional leadership, isn’t it time Democrat candidates in the Second, including Craig, tell the voters if they in fact would vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker? How about articles of impeachment, which Democrat leaders said they would commence?
“It’s very important because voters should know whether they desire the continued efforts of Republican leaders in Congress or whether they want to risk all recent progress by electing Nancy Pelosi as Speaker or Adam Schiff and Maxine Waters as chairs of intelligence and financial services respectively.
“Once again, Minnesotans deserve an answer.”
