Craig: “I’m opposed to the wall”

Oct 23, 2018

Eagan, MN – Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager Becky Alery released the following statement:

“On Sunday, we saw a lively debate between the candidates in the Second district in which Congressman Jason Lewis cajoled Angie Craig into admitting the obvious: she is not in favor of building a wall or securing the border. It is now clear that if elected Craig would be another ‘resistance’ Democrat in Congress.

“In his first term, Congressman Lewis and his fellow Republicans were willing to work with Democrats to fix our nation’s broken immigration system. Lewis supported two bills that would have solved family separation and allowed DACA recipients to work towards legal status. Included in those bills was funding for a border wall.

“While we know Democrats depend on illegal immigrants to vote, we have a clear crisis on our hands and if we do not invest in solutions, then we will not be solving anything.

“In fact, right now there are more than 7,000 in the latest ‘caravan’ on their way to the United States with plans to enter illegally—and many of them young adult males without children.

“Unfortunately, our current Democrats in Congress and Angie Craig are not willing to address this crisis. Just yesterday, moves were made in a Minnesota County to bar law enforcement from arresting those here illegally. And Craig is even taking money from the leading advocate to abolish ICE, radical Kirsten Gillibrand.

“If we do not adequately secure our border to ensure anyone coming in the search of the American Dream is doing so legally, we are going to continue to have an immigration crisis on our hands and have another DACA situation in 3, 5, or 10 years.

“Thankfully, Jason Lewis is willing to work towards a solution. And it is now clear that Angie Craig is not.”
