The Decision is Here, and Angie Craig Needs to Make Hers

Jun 28, 2018

“Today is a big win for Minnesota, the Second District and blue-collared workers across the state. Congressman Jason Lewis is proud to see the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission unanimously grant the certificate of need for the Enbridge Pipeline which will help secure and protect hundreds of millions of dollars and thousands of jobs for Minnesota’s Second District.

“Lewis, a true supporter of labor, has been a vocal backer of the Enbridge Pipeline and consistently voted on behalf of the labor industry during his first term in Congress. Angie Craig, however, has yet to mention the Enbridge Pipeline. While Craig’s silence on the topic may have been accepted while the project was up the air, silence is no longer acceptable.

“The people of Minnesota need to know. Will Angie Craig continue to put extreme environmentalists above blue-collar workers in the Second District and across the state? Or will she put her ‘I support labor’ rhetoric into action by joining Congressman Lewis and the majority of Minnesotans who support Enbridge Pipeline?

“The decision on Enbridge Line 3 Pipeline is here, and Angie needs to make hers.”

Background:

  • Minnesota’s largest refinery, Pine Bend, located in Rosemount, MN depends on the Enbridge pipeline system which provides all of the oil for the refinery.
  • Pine Bend refinery has a dedicated pipeline to Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, providing the majority of the jet fuel for the international airport.
  • Replacing the Enbridge Pipeline means more than 8,000 jobs here in Minnesota. Not only will the project create thousands of jobs, but it will protect thousands more – especially those right here in Minnesota’s Second District.
  • Additionally, this project will bring $19 million in additional tax revenue and more than $2 billion in private investment to the state. At Pine Bend, Flint Hill’s $600 million in investments is at risk without the additional crude oil from the updated Enbridge Pipeline.
