Eagan, MN – Today, the Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign released the following statement announcing the endorsement of Jason Lewis by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 49 and the Carpenters Union.

In his first-term, Congressman Jason Lewis worked to defend Labor, increase focus on career and technical education and support blue-collar workers throughout Minnesota and the country. He introduced legislation to increase funding for students looking to be educated in the trades, voted for Davis-Bacon a half dozen times and has been a vocal supporter of the Enbridge Pipeline which would support thousands of jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in investment right here in Minnesota’s Second District.

“I am honored to have the support from these important and influential labor groups,” said Lewis. “This nation was built on the backs of hardworking Minnesotans like those belonging to these two groups and it is important we support them with our policies in Washington. In Congress, my dual-enrollment amendment was signed into law to ensure we can better support the workforce of tomorrow so labor groups are able to thrive with adequately trained laborers. I am proud to have supported them in my first-term in Congress and look forward to continuing to work on their behalf.”

“In Jason’s time in Congress he has cast repeated votes in support of Davis-Bacon prevailing wage and has led on the issue of changing school curriculum to encourage more people to look at careers in the construction industry,” said Adam Duininck, the Director of Government Affairs for the Carpenters Union. “Jason has always had an open-door policy with us and we appreciate the time he has taken to visit our facilities and meet with our members to learn more about the Carpenters he represents.”

“Jason Lewis has made an effort to get to know our Union, understand our issues, and has taken politically tough stances in support of good paying Union jobs,” said Jason George, Business Manager of Local 49. “We don’t always agree on every issue, but we know that when it comes to supporting our jobs, he has stood with us, and that is why we are standing with him.”
