Eagan, MN – Today, Congressman Jason Lewis released the below statement regarding yesterday’s hearing on the Kavanaugh confirmation:
“One week ago, I wrote that it was time to end the embarrassing spectacle in the Senate, vote and confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The events of the last few days have only confirmed that judgment.
“The Democrat tactic to sit on a decade’s old accusation for maximum political gain was indeed unconscionable. But this ‘search and destroy’ mission to shred the reputation of another human being now appears stymied due to Dr. Christine Ford’s continued failure to corroborate her story.
“Of course, Ford is also a victim whose anonymity was thrown aside in the name of rank political expediency on the part of Senate Democrats. But the shocking comments of Sen. Richard Blumenthal (and dutifully regurgitated by liberal sycophants in America’s tabloid media) claiming it is the accused who must prove their innocence and not the other way around demonstrate how precariously close we are to turning our back on centuries of western jurisprudence.
“As Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said, ‘this is what the so-called “resistance’” has become’ - and it’s bound to get worse if some of the most dangerous rhetoric encouraging the personal destruction of your political opponents is rewarded with power.
“It should now be clear to anyone watching this entire, sad circus that if Democrats regain control of this country the societal glue that holds us all together will dissolve and in the process no individual will be safe from deliberate smears solely designed to attain political power. And neither will be their loved ones.”
