After last night’s DFL Candidate Forum in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District, the Lewis for Congress Campaign released the following statement:
“Now more than ever the American people want answers and action. Something they apparently will not get from their DFL candidates who are seemingly more worried about who can run to further left more quickly than the other.
“We are less than a year away from Election Day, and after last night’s DFL forum with Angie Craig and Jeff Erdmann we are left with more questions than answers.
“While claiming they are running for office because they are sick of politics as usual, Craig and Erdmann simply highlighted how they are the definition of politics as usual by utilizing the typical campaign strategy of the left: resist all Republican efforts in Washington rather than supporting any solutions and ideas of their own. The people of Minnesota’s 2nd District deserve so much more.
“Since taking office, Congressman Jason Lewis has been working to modernize and simplify our nation’s tax code, increase transparency and accountability of our federal government, and reform our criminal justice system, all while his opponents argue over who will be the best line of defense to any true reforms that will benefit Minnesota families. Something Angie Craig is especially eager to embrace through her statement last night that the role of Member of Congress is 2019 will be to serve as ‘a roadblock to all of the things and the progress this administration is trying to undo.’ They are so eager to obstruct and oppose the administration that they embrace gridlock just to please a radical base seeking to make a far left-wing ideological statement on behalf of their big money donors.”
“This past summer, more than half of Americans polled said that Democrats only stand against Trump and do not stand for anything. Last night, Craig and Erdmann proved they plan to stand by that failed strategy – serving only to prevent true solutions that can help everyday Minnesotans and better the future of this great nation.
“The only good that came from last night is Craig and Erdmann’s support for Congressman Lewis’ efforts to tackle criminal justice reform, and career and technical training and development.
“It is time for Angie Craig and Jeff Erdmann to do more than simply be against the reforms and progress happening in our nation’s capital. Minnesotans do not want a candidate who will be the next Bernie or Hillary, they want an independent voice, and that is exactly what Congressman Jason Lewis is for Minnesotans in the 2nd district.”
