The answer is…more silence

Eagan, MN - Jason Lewis for Congress Campaign Manager, Becky Alery, released the following statement regarding Angie Craig’s continuous refusal to say whether or not she supports single-payer:

“The 2018 cycle is well underway and it is clear that 2018 Angie Craig is far different than 2016 Angie Craig. For starters, she has started her campaign by running as far left as she can. Which, I guess is understandable she was being challenged by a former campaign volunteer.

“While this may be a good strategy to secure the endorsement (which we all know she already had in the bag) a radical, far-left progressive is definitely not what Minnesotans in Second Congressional District want.

“Craig’s overall campaign strategy this time around seems to be the ‘have your cake and eat it too’ mentality by seemingly taking radical stances without actually stating her opinion and stance. Doing her best to get credit with progressives, without alienating the voters she failed to secure in 2016.

“Well, that’s simply not how elected officials or candidates should run. And that is not how to run a successful campaign. If you have an opinion, say it. If you have a policy position, share it with the people you are hoping to represent. Jason Lewis shares his opinion on a daily basis, but in most areas, mum is the word for Angie Craig.

“The question on whether or not Craig joins her former DFL opponent Jeff Erdmann and good pal Keith Ellison in support for a single-payer system has been posed a time or two before, but is it possible we actually got our answer? Or as a good of an answer as we can expect from Craig?

“Recently, Craig claimed Ellison wants her at the table ‘when we’re figuring this out.’ But during two interview this past weekend, when given the opportunity to share her opinion on solutions to fix our broken health care system Craig avoided specifics once again.

“So, Craig is going to play a role in drafting legislation for a single-payer system, but still refuses to say whether or not she actually supports single-payer?

“Minnesotans want answers. Minnesotans want honesty. If Craig is going to be working with one of the most progressive Members of Congress on a progressive piece of legislation, Minnesotans deserve to get a real answer - from the mouth of Craig herself.”
